Early Life and Career

Steven Hill was born on February 24, 1922, in Seattle, Washington. He began his acting career in the 1940s and appeared in a variety of stage productions, including Broadway shows. In the 1960s, he gained wider recognition for his role as Captain Dan Briggs in the hit television series "Mission Impossible".

"Law & Order"

In 1990, Hill joined the cast of the long-running crime drama "Law & Order". He played the role of District Attorney Adam Schiff, a character loosely based on Manhattan DA Robert Morgenthau. Hill's portrayal of Schiff was praised for its depth and nuance. He remained with the show for the first ten seasons, leaving in 2000.

Versatile Actor

Hill was a versatile actor who performed in a wide range of genres. In addition to his television roles, he also appeared in numerous films, including "The Untouchables" (1955), "Hud" (1963), and "Russian Roulette" (1975). He also worked as a voice actor, providing the voice of Wolverine in the animated series "X-Men" (1992-1997).

Later Years and Death

Hill retired from acting in 2001 and lived in Montecito, California, until his death on August 9, 2016, at the age of 94. He is remembered as one of the most respected and talented character actors of his generation.
