Dubai Struck by Torrential Rain, Paralyzing Financial Center
Heavy Rainfall Causes Flooding in UAE and Bahrain
Over 120mm of Rain Falls in Dubai, Diverting Flights
Dubai, the bustling financial hub of the Middle East, has been brought to a standstill by torrential rainfall that has caused widespread flooding across the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain.
Nearly 4 inches (100 mm) of rain fell over the course of just 12 hours on Tuesday, according to weather observations at the airport around 2:44 PM PDT. The heavy downpour has caused flash floods, inundating streets, homes, and businesses.
Dubai's international airport has been forced to divert arriving flights as the city-state experiences its heaviest rainfall in years. The Asian Champions League football semi-final between the UAE's Al Ain and Saudi side Al Hilal, scheduled to be hosted in Al Ain, has also been postponed for 24 hours due to the weather conditions.
